"Heartache on the Run," by Toni Catlin

Toni Catlin's "Heartache on the Run" is one of those CD's that remind you of heading out on a long road trip-either in a car or more profoundly on the "road trip" of life. The first time I heard it, I felt as though I was reliving parts of my past and then looking into the positive aspects of what my future may hold. It's one of those albums. Toni's voice is pure and mature beyond what one would think of a debut album. It's like the first time I heard Fiona Apple and Alana Davis-both seemed too strong and powerful for debuts-as if their old souls made for voices mature beyond first-time recordings. "Bulletproof" has a driving beat that'll make you hit "repeat" often, as does "No Justice in Love." The song "Me and My Heartache on the Run" was co-written by Gwil Owen who was nominated for a Grammy for his song "A Soft Place to Fall" on the Horse Whisper soundtrack. Catlin, a Vermont native, but resident of Nashville and Colorado, brings all the elements of her physical surroundings to her album through her strong songwriting skills. She's had several songs published by Curb Music and Big Fish Entertainment. This CD proves that she's got the vocals to back up her already acclaimed songwriting skills. Finally, the superb mix by producer Preston Sullivan and backup vocals from top Nashville players keep this CD on the heavy rotation list at W.i.g.
