Dangerous Angels: The Weetzie Bat Books, by Francesca Lia Block, Harper Collins, $12

Dangerous Angels This is all of the magical and hyper-lyrical Weetzie Bat stories put together in one enjoyable edition. You will feel like your eyes are half-open as you envision the dreamy things Block describes floating behind your eyelids. Each character is unique and identified by strange clothing and occupations like surfing or drumming. Duck and Dirk are a couple of guys who surf and live happily with Weetzie Bat and My Secret Agent Lover Man. Offspring Cherokee and Witch Baby come along as the story unfolds and they all do cool things together, like forming a band called The Goat Guys. Colors like pink and orange and foods like guacamole, strawberry ice-cream and whole wheat pancakes full of bananas and pecans and topped with plain yogurt and maple syrup, are infused between the lines. Smells like fresh lemons and roses and ocean breezes float between the magical words that Block braids together like dried flowers. These stories are fit for teenagers and adults alike because they are modern and timeless in their childish innocence.
